Cindy Kelly, PRN
Occupational Therapy Assistant My job serving the families and patients here at 321 Go Kids is like being part of a family. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in therapy? The first time I watched the occupational therapist work with students in my preschool classroom. Who inspires you in your profession? The kids are my inspiration as well as therapists who build a relationship with the child and caregiver in order to serve the whole child. What is your favorite way to engage with kids? My favorite way to engage with the kids is to play with them. Whether it is taking turns during a game or participating in an activity encouraging a bit of competiton to boost their confidence, I enjoy being a part of what the kids are doing. Tell us about a challenge that you watched a child overcome. I had been working with a child on improving handwriting as well as attention to task in the classroom. The challenge I watched this child overcome, however, was not handwriting or attention… it was self-confidence. This child talked with their head down and very rarely smiled. While working with this child one day, we both discoved running was very much a strength and began talking about being part of the cross country team. From then on smiles happened more often and conversations were with head held up. What do you enjoy doing outside of work? My favorite thing to do outside of work is to spend time with my kids and grandchildren. I also like to work in the yard and garden. My husband and I love to spend time on the lake in our kayaks. Anything else you would like to share? Even though my hours are part-time, I feel embraced fully and am happy to be a part of something so much more than therapy. We are all about serving one another. My first experience with the 321 Go Kids team was as a therapist at Victory Lane Camp in June of 2017. I came home from camp feeling like I received so much more than I gave. The following summer I served as a therapist again, and again my faith grew stronger and my heart filled with joy.
