I love learning about what each individual kid enjoys and using play to motivate them to participate and thrive during their therapy sessions.

When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in therapy? I first knew that I wanted to pursue a career in occupational therapy after working at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. It was the first time I saw OT in action and was amazed to watch the students work towards increasing their independence and overcoming obstacles.

Who inspires you in your profession? I am inspired by the children and families I have the pleasure of working with! When families and the therapy team work in collaboration, great things can be accomplished, in and out of the clinic setting!

What is your favorite way to engage with kids? I love learning about what each individual kid enjoys and using play to motivate them to participate and thrive during their therapy sessions.

Tell us about a challenge that you watched a child overcome. I worked with a teenager after he was in a car accident which left him paralyzed. He was quadriplegic and only had very limited use of his arms. I was able to work with him in the hospital, helping him to learn how to become more independent with dressing, eating, self-care, wheelchair transfers, and pursuing recreational activities. He taught me the importance of self-efficacy and prioritizing my clients’ autonomy as I watched him overcome great obstacles while working hard every step of the way.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy gardening, hiking, and being in nature.
