Occupational Therapy Assistant The kids are my biggest inspiration. Seeing a child overcome a challenge is so rewarding! When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in therapy? Growing up, my sister received First Step therapy services. I have always wanted to work with children and the therapists always looked like they were having fun working with my sister. I shadowed a few occupational therapists in high school and fell in love with it. Who inspires you in your profession? The kids are my biggest inspiration. Seeing a child overcome a challenge is so rewarding! What is your favorite way to engage with kids? I love the aspect of play. Being able to engage with kids doing what they enjoy, while still working towards therapy goals, is my favorite. Tell us about a challenge that you watched a child overcome. I have watched my sister overcome the challenge of walking again. She has a chronic neurological pain disorder that caused her to rely on crutches for mobility for about 7 years. After a long journey, and lots of therapy, she is able to walk independently! Seeing her preserver through each day is an inspiration. What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, crafting, camping and traveling to new places.
