Cassidy Burns

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience, and I strive to create an environment where fun and progress go hand in hand.

When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in therapy? From the moment I began considering my future career, I knew I wanted to work in a field where I could make a meaningful impact on children's lives. However, I was unsure of the specific path to pursue. While exploring my options during the college application process, I discovered speech language pathology. As I dove deeper into researching the field and had the opportunity to shadow a speech therapist at an elementary school my senior year of high school, I instantly felt a strong connection and passion for this profession.

Who inspires you in your profession? During my freshman year of college, my little cousin was born and diagnosed with Williams Syndrome. Over the past four years, she has worked with various therapists, including a speech therapist. Witnessing the joy my family experiences when she says a new word or learns a new sign has deeply inspired me. My goal is to bring that same sense of accomplishment and happiness to other families through my work.

What is your favorite way to engage with kids? Incorporating play into therapy sessions is one of my primary goals for my patients. I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience, and I strive to create an environment where fun and progress go hand in hand. By alternating between game time and focused work on the day's targets, I ensure that each session is both engaging and effective for all.

Tell us about a challenge that you watched a child overcome. As previously mentioned, my little cousin was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome at birth, which has impacted her speech development. However, through years of speech therapy, her communication and social skills have improved significantly. Witnessing her progress from struggling to be understood to confidently expressing herself has been incredibly rewarding. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience this transformation, and I am committed to helping others achieve it.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy spending time socializing with friends and family, especially outdoors. Whether it's relaxing by the pool, at the beach, or just enjoying warm and sunny weather.
