Priyanka Deshmukh

Priyanka Deshmukh - Physical Therapist

I realized this was exactly how I could help not just her, but others who struggle with physical limitations.

When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in therapy? Honestly, it started before I even understood what therapy was. I remember being very young and noticing my grandmother’s hands—how stiff and painful they were because of her arthritis. I didn’t know the medical side of it, but I remember feeling it deeply and thinking, I need to do something to help her. It wasn’t a thought-out decision at that age, just a very strong instinct to help her move better and be able to use her hands again. As I grew older, I started learning about different healthcare fields, and that’s when I discovered physical therapy. It immediately connected back to that feeling I had as a child. I realized this was exactly how I could help not just her, but others who struggle with physical limitations. That early moment stayed with me, and it’s what ultimately led me to this profession.

Who inspires you in your profession? I’m inspired by both my patients and fellow therapists. The resilience children show, even in the face of significant challenges, is incredibly motivating. I’m also inspired by colleagues who continuously adapt, learn, and advocate for their patients—they remind me of the impact we can have when we stay dedicated and compassionate.

What is your favorite way to engage with kids? Play is at the center of everything I do. I love incorporating therapy goals into games, obstacle courses, and imaginative play. When kids are having fun, they’re more engaged, and that’s when the best progress happens. Building trust and making sessions feel like play rather than “work” is key.

Tell us about a challenge that you watched a child overcome? I worked with a young child who had significant motor delays and difficulty with head and trunk control. Initially, even simple positioning was a challenge, and progress felt slow. Over time, with consistent therapy and family involvement, the child began to gain strength and control. I’ll never forget the moment they independently sat for the first time—it was a huge milestone not just physically, but emotionally for the family. Watching that transformation reinforced why this work is so meaningful.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work, I really enjoy gardening, baking, and painting. I love meditating everyday as it helps me slow down and recharge. But more than anything, I love spending time with my family—a wonderful daughter who is my whole world, a puppy who keeps life fun, an amazing husband, and loving parents—I feel blessed!
