Tripp Achieves Self-Regulation Through Occupational Therapy

Like most children his age, Tripp is full of energy. But at times, Tripp’s energy took over, leading to difficult situations and behavioral issues. Tripp’s peers were learning to regulate emotions and follow directions. But for Tripp, even small moments could feel overwhelming, leading to big reactions that were hard to control.

“He was having tantrums over everything and throwing stuff and kicking stuff and hitting me over any little inconvenience,” said Jennifer, Tripp’s mother. Jennifer knew something needed to change, and that decision led them to 321go Kids.

“One of my hopes was it’ll help his behavior, help him control himself a little bit or learn how to control himself a little bit,” she shared.

Tripp began working with Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Eliya Norman at 321go Kids.

Eliya described Tripp as “a super sweet kid with a bundle of energy and nowhere to put it.” He was constantly on the move, struggling to slow down or respond calmly in everyday situations. The occupational therapy team at 321go Kids created goals for Tripp that offered tools to manage his energy.

Occupational therapy sessions focused on helping Tripp build skills like learning to recognize his emotions, regulate his body, and respond instead of react. Through structured play, sensory strategies, and consistent routines, Eliya helped him to turn his high energy into meaningful progress. Over time, those steps added up.

“He is now, with sensory input, able to regulate his body; his coordination has gotten better, and he’s sitting down to do activities,” Eliya explained.

Today, Tripp can participate in activities which were once out of reach. He can sit and play games with peers, complete crafts, write his name, and work through frustrations when things don’t go as planned.

At home, Tripp’s progress with therapy wasn’t going unnoticed. Jennifer stated, “He’s changed in every single way. He is more calm, not as impulsive, and doesn’t get upset as much. He doesn’t really fight me on a lot of things anymore.”

The difference became clear in everyday tasks, like following directions and listening.

“(Tripp) working on his impulsivity and attitude and tantrums is also making me work on my stuff. So it’s kind of like we’re both learning and growing together,” said Jennifer.

With Jennifer’s steady support at home, progress became part of their daily routine. She encourages other parents to stay patient through the process: “Have patience. It’s going to be really hard at first, but once they get into a routine and structure, they really start working on things. It’s so worth it. Just hang in there.”

At 321go Kids, stories like Tripp’s show what’s possible when families “discover hope, unleash potential.”
