Climbing to Independence: Kenny’s Physical Therapy Success

Imagine being a 10-year-old boy who can’t slide down an inflatable slide with your friends. That was the situation for young Kenny. He struggled with his mobility and felt uneasy walking on his own. His dad, Andy, feared he might never be able to walk unassisted.

Andy had tried other physical therapy services, but he discovered a more innovative and personalized experience at 321go Kids. Physical therapist Diana Clark began working with Kenny in 2022 on skills that would help him gain confidence in his movements and daily life. On the recommendation of the 321go Kids team, Kenny underwent foot surgery to improve his foot position. The successful surgery set Kenny on a path toward independence.

Diana worked with Kenny to accomplish some goals like getting in and out of his dad’s truck, navigating stairs and improving balance. Kenny tackled those goals and worked on advanced skills like squatting down and balancing on unstable surfaces.

Diana recalls one of her favorite moments during therapy: “When we worked on getting into the bathtub, Kenny was scared at first. But when he was able to get in, sit down, and stand up by himself, you could see his confidence explode. Dad was so excited, and I was too. It was a big day for them.”

Andy is proud of the hard work Kenny has done in therapy. “My biggest hope has come true: he has become more self-sufficient when he’s walking around by himself,” Andy shared. “He’s getting braver in doing things.”

This bravery led to a major accomplishment recently. Last year, Kenny could not climb the rock wall and slide down the inflatable slide during a church event. This year, he mastered the rock wall and enjoyed sliding down the other side with his friends cheering him on.

Andy has played a huge role in his son’s success. Diana notes, “Andy is such a champion for Kenny. He always encourages him at home to continue building his independence. He takes what we work on in therapy and reinforces it, making sure Kenny gets the practice he needs.”

Andy appreciates the support of the 321go Kids team. “When I bring Kenny to 321go, I can trust them with him. I view them as an extended family there. If you want an atmosphere where they are making it a fun experience for the child, go to 321go Kids.”

Kenny’s story demonstrates how children can overcome obstacles and reach their full potential through physical therapy. If you know a child ready to take their first steps toward independence, 321go Kids is here to help. Start by completing our contact form at 321gokids.com.
